Post by Seratone Wed May 25, 2011 2:21 am

When Chris saw the panic outside of the night club, he decided to high tail it out of the area before someone saw him.

He texts Sara, asking for an update of what happened.

Chris stays busy the whole week.

He tries to get in contact with the women that they had rescued along with Liam. He uses his various contacts to do this.

Next, he tries to convince the women to cooperate with him in making an internet video where they would offer testimony as to what happened to them.

Lastly, he looks into the possibility of modifying his camera so that it would be able to get past the vampire's well known ability to cast a reflection.

While Chris managed to find the number of Helen's husband, he refused to let Chris speak to his wife or her new friends. The entire incident was entirely too traumatic, he insisted with a firm hang up.

Chris managed to figure out that some one in the camera business could modify the camera with in the perimeters that came to Chris. A few phone calls revealed that the modifications could be quite pricey.
With Chris' patchy reputation, it was clear that he would have to get his hands on some disposable income.

After the meeting and the attack...

Chris was back in his apartment. As he looked in the mirror, he rubbed his face and grimaced. He was still in a lot of pain, but he also knew that it could have been a lot worse.

Still, at least he had -something- to upload.

Chris uploads the photograph of the mysterious woman with the claws to Network Zero, as well as his blog, adding the caption. "Monster sighted in Detroit."

Hre checks his Network Zero contacts for any information and shoots Cypher a PM.

"Check out the photograph on my blog. Whatever this thing is, it nearly killed me and some other people I work with. Conventional weapons were ineffective, but a Priest was able to drive it off. Allergic to Religion perhaps? Only clue we have so far is that it may have something to do with the Chereokee Indians. Also need to probe for a connection to the Harpers."

Chris' contacts have not sent him any information.

Cypher shoots him an immediate reply.
'Nasty piece of work... I've heard of some things being affected by people of faith. Not the average Joe Christian, mind you, but people of true faith. I'd look into that.

Did you say that your probing it for a connection to the Harpers? I thought you said that the Harpers were vampires. Do you think they've hired out local Cherokee legends too...? What proof do you have that it wasn't just a monster seeing a meal in you and your friends?

After Chris finishes his PM, he sees a new post on Network Zero.

The writer, ward70 - the same guy who heckled you about your credibility last week- posted a link to Detroit Ledger. The link was to an article entitled 'Sensible budgeting or fiscal irresponsibility in the face of the illness?' by Rick Meeker.

Last week, young politician Ben Rose made waves when he allocated funds from health care to repairing city buildings.
'These budget cuts were necessary,' Ben Rose states standing one of the Courthouse steps. 'No one could have foreseen the breadth of this illness last month. But it is that - an illness. Go get your flu shot, stay at home when your sick - and the illness and season will pass. Then Megan can get back to volleyball and Clark can go back to band practice - because the arts and athletics program of the schools weren't cut.

These buildings - including the one behind me- are in desperate needs of renovations to stay to the fire code. No one wants wants citizens to be harmed in the event of an emergency. '

The other side of this story is one young woman's crusade to raise funds to donate to the cause. Susan Harper - related to the young councilman Ben Rose as well as the philanthropist Harpers that have donated to the city for the last decades . She purports that the cuts to the health care system is endangering the safety of the city's populace.

'Have you been to an E.R. lately?" She asks this reporter. "I have. Its a madhouse. The staff are overworked, the people are sick and desperate. We need funding to hire more staff and possibly staff a virologist to solve this sickness. If it goes much longer, the CDC may have to be involved."

After the meeting with Sara...

Chris reaches out to his professional contacts.

"Did anyone else see the piece on Susan Harper. Looks like this story is getting hot. Does anyone know her public schedule?"

As Chris stares at the silent computer, he has a flash of inspiration. Ben Rose had claimed that these buildings needed funds for repairs, including the Court house that he was standing in front of.

A quick search on courthouses in their new city revealed that Detroit
had four; not including the district headquarters. Port Huron proved to
be the oldest building - the parking lot hooked up to a side street on
Water Street that was a short hop to the main street. The Flint
courthouse was in the downtown area.

He was certain he could run to the city hall and look up building permits to see if any actual building was going on. Liam's kidnapping had revealed one thing- the vampires needed funds. Kim had declared that the 'Honeycomb' had various 'cells' - locations hidden around the city, no doubt.

As Chris stared at the articles with the public face of the Harper agenda, he is suddenly struck by an idea. If his investigation at city hall to see if building permits turned out that no actual work had been done- and the money had been diverted from health care- then perhaps these buildings were cells in the Honeycomb.

What better place to hide than in plain sight?
As Chris considered it, the better that sounded. A puzzle piece - about the 'saboteur' Liam had heard about at the Harper compound - fell into place. The saboteur could be another agent working against the Harpers. Kidnapping, forced blood bonds, assault to law abiding citizens like himself- surely they had to have made enemies.

As Chris finishes his email to Morgan, he receives notification that someone has commented on his blog in reply to the most recent post.

When he loads the page, he sees a remark from Astarte 2.0.

That old Cherokee woman hasn't touched you, has she? What am I saying? Its not like you'd know! Sad
Truly hope you are O.K. I've heard bad things about her in Nevada... Want to know more?

The last line is a link to ' Nasty Sightings'.
Clicking it takes you to a forum, a rather unprotected one decorated in Gothic theme and populated by posters with bad grammar. The link directs you to a thread entitled
Grandma on Speed

Therein Chris finds three posts from three different users. The first is an angst filled vent - a 'grandma approached us; attacked. my mom's in the hospital. They say she's dying.. that something sucked out her liver. WTF, man!'
The second offers condolences and shares a tidbit: 'I've heard if you get her it can be reversed..

The third and final offers condolences, for as a week has passed, she assumes the mother has taken a turn for the worst. She's heard rumors of such a creature being summoned by those who know ancient rituals. Nimue mentioned it last August; that she knew someone who'd lost an organ 'magically'.

Nimue's so wise- she said if you act like you don't have a heart, then maybe it just gets up and runs away from you..

Chris stares at the screen blankly as a sickening feeling in his stomach takes hold. He wonders if a similar fate was now awaiting him.

Chris decides to email Sara to keep her in the loop.

Subject: Two Items

1.The article and comments about the Cherokee woman. Followed by the message. I may be in trouble.

2. The Private Investigator's resume: Followed by the message. I would like to bring this guy on board our team. He's looked into some things for me and the results have been startling. Can you clear him before the next meeting?

Sara got back to her computer later that evening, so didn't get Chris' email for another few hours. Sitting down she scanned the short email, and opened the first attachment to study the information on the Cherokee woman. Grabbing a post-it, Sara made a note to pass along the newfound information to Joshua. She figured that, if nothing else, he would find it interesting.

Get a liver-function test. Sara emailed in the first portion of the message. It was better to nip that one in the bud sooner rather than later.

She scanned through the investigator's resume; but wasn't immediately wowed. As per her suspicious nature - particularly these days, she knew that such things could easily be forged.

I'll check out the investigator, but no promises on him coming on board immediately. We need to concentrate on tightening our current bonds before introducing new people. How long have you known him for? Or is this some new guy you dug up out of the paper?

After the fucked up people they had met over the last few weeks, after the manipulations of the last couple of creature-features; Sara did not intend on being caught out by someone possibly helping them, just to get on the inside. Joshua, Liam, Chris and she had been thrust together under bizarre circumstances - but now they had the benefit of a little time to choose who another member of the team could be. Hasty decisions didn't need to be made. They needed someone who could shoot worth a damn, not another damned book-type.

Chris's reply:

Alright I'll wait on the go ahead from you before bringing him to a meet. I haven't worked with him before but he's getting information out fast.

Looking at the info he dug up for me, it looks like Kim and Ward attacked a Courthouse last night and ended up torching the place. He says that vampires were in the vicinity when it happened so its a good bet that the place was being used by the Harper's for some purpose.

Will keep you posted.

Sara's reply was short, terse.

Fast can be good; but it can also mean sloppy work that's eager to impress. I'll check in with Kim and find out what's happening with the Courthouse. Don't assume anything. The Harper's might have their fingers in a lot of pots; but it would take a lot of pull to use a courthouse for something shady.

Are any of them even lawyers, or judges?

Chris forwarded the information he was sent: Morgan's name, age and that he was a private investigator.
