Re: Cruising for a Bruising
2009-10-11 10:15:34MrSmith rolls 7 dice to Wits+Occult 10,9,6,7,10, 10,5,1,8,7 (5 successes)
He knew this was true, but he also knew there was variables to it, he knew not that he was in someone’s privet territory, but he knew these things did not matter, he had broken a law and his faith lay in this man’s very old hands. His eyes jumped for a second to the sheriff’s device with a wrinkled brow and a look of confusion. Moving his eyes back to Majordomo then nodding he answered, “Yes I, Smith, feed in the domain of another unacknowledged.”

The Sheriff slides away the blinking device and gets comfortable as he dutifully sits through the Majordomo's spiel. The green haze that surrounded him now creeps across the floor of the place, lingering on each of the Majordomo's thralls, as though sampling their vice. The Majordomo cocks his head to one side, resting his cheek against a manicured hand. He still watches you with raised eyebrows and mock incredulity. The parlour is silent, bar the scratching sound of brushstrokes behind you. The Majordomo's voice seems deafening when he breaks the silence with a mere whisper.
"I see. And you have nothing to say in your defense?"

Re: Cruising for a Bruising
Mr. Smith took a moment to consider if his question for self defense was a set up for further incrimination, if regardless of what he said if the response would be that of ’there is no defense for…’ he could not remove his vision for a second from the green haze as the entity moved from one to another to another, he hadn’t seen something like this before and though his life hung in the balance he watched it, he thought of his Imp but didn‘t look about for him. He peeled his attention away from it and returned it to Majordomo.
“All I can say is that I am fresh from the Sleep spending what appears to be centuries in Torpor, I was barely aware of the time or place much less that I was in someone else’s domain,” On his knees he kept his head and back slightly bowed and took a breath to continue his speech, “I don’t believe that this will excuse my trespassing, but hopeful I can be given some leniency.” His tone was natural obviously apologetic, but not pleading nor begging he did have his pride even if it had been bruised from the repeated beating at the hands of the Sheriff.

Re: Cruising for a Bruising
The Majordomo fixes you with a weary stare of condemnation as he sits through your appeal. He cocks his head the other way onto his other hand, drumming the fingers of his free hand against the arm of his chair.
"You are correct, Smith. There is no defense. I am all too aware of the persuasive hunger and dispossession following the eclipse. However, I have no choice but to question the civility and integrity of one awakened, who operates under the assumption that in his torpor, he outlived the traditions which bind us all. Law. Ownership."
The Majordomo sits up straight. The Sheriff continues to fiddle with a small, black device.
"See yourself from where I sit, Smith. You are Majordomo to Detroit's Sovereign. An incident falls into your purview, demanding your attention. An incident orchestrated by a creature unrecognised by the City, twisted by torpors riddle. Freshly arisen, no less. He arises in the overpopulated City to which you are bound custodian. His very appearance is enough to threaten the Masquerade and already he has broken the law of the City you serve."
The Majordomo relaxes, looking thoughtful as he delivers what's sounding more and more like a eulogy.
"In my experience, leniency is costly. However, I take no pleasure consigning others to finality."
Slowly, the Majordomo leans forward and picks up a small bundle of velvet. He unwraps it gently, revealing the clean flash of a simple combat knife. He gazes down at the blade and sighs. A look of eager desperation can be read upon the face of every thrall in the room. The first evidence you've seen that they possess emotion beyond fatigue. To your surprise, the Majordomo rolls up his sleeve and drags the blade across an ancient wound marring his forearm. His voice is cold.
"I intend to offer you a choice as plain as day, Smith. You can drink from me, or you can be declared outlaw. In the first eventuality, you shall receive the right to a Requiem spent in the Mirror Domain; you shall report to me twice monthly and you shall tell nobody of our arrangement under pain of an existence in which agony is the only sensation and torpor is a pleasant memory. In the second eventuality you'll be granted a swift death and my stable shall lick the remnants of you from my floor. Consider each eventuality and choose carefully."

Re: Cruising for a Bruising
It took Mr. Smith more then a few moments to consider his options, and as much as he did not like the idea of being blood bound to anyone even in the most meager steps, but Final Death would give him no hope at all, and he would only be bound as long as this kindred lived. "I will drink from you," He said and the words left a horrible taste in his mouth.

Re: Cruising for a Bruising
The room fills with the collective sigh of sympathy and envy from the Majordomo's thrall. He glances around as one might do with dogs in a show of dominance to quiet them down and warn them to remain in place. The Sheriff makes no audible noise, but you can nearly hear his internal cackle of joy.
Standing, the Majordomo approaches you, knife in hand, and gestures that you should remain kneeling before him. Never one to miss an opportunity to grandstand, especially to a captive audience, Sebastian makes the most of this situation, gleaning pleasure from your discomfort, your misfortune and his ever-increasing power.
"Smith, for committing the crime of poaching upon our lands, We do hereby sentence you to the punishment of first stage bond to the Majordomo of Detroit. Since you have willingly accepted the terms of your sentence for the crime you are accused of perpetrating and have been found guilty of, We will execute the sentence presently."
Sebastian holds out his forearm and watches almost with bemused detachment as the knife melts into the skin of his arm, leaving a deep gash. He then puts the cut up to your black, lifeless lips and smiles.
